We've been uber-slack about changing the air filter in our furnace. I did try a while ago but it required a screw driver and said something about high voltage so I left it alone. Now the live oak pollen is crushing us and I'm looking for anything that'll help... I made DH investigate our super duper air system to see what the heck kinda air filter we need. It looks pretty normal but never heard of this brand and when I googled it, it looks like you have to go thru a distributor. Camfil Aeropleat. It's Swedish no less. Anyway, does anyone know where one might acquire said brand of air filter locally?

You wouldn't believe how dirty this filter is... It's truly disgusting... wonder if any ole 24" x 24" x 1" pleated filter will do? Anyone?

Thanks!

We have a run of the mill system, but the filter is a really odd size and a special order for everyone in town. But I discovered Filters-now.com. They seem to have every air filter ever made - and they're cheap and have free shipping.

If you know the dimensions of your filter, then you can probably pick one up at HD or LOWES. They carry both the four inch thick and one inch thick pleated filters. Pleated filters are the best for cutting down on pollen and allergens in your AC. If the dimensions are something weird like 14 X 30 then you may have to order those through a certified AC Company.

Good Luck.

Buy the pleated ones at HD or Lowes and replace them every 3 months. They cost a little extra but they will make you breath easier, allow your AC system to function more efficiently (saving you money) and it will protect the cooling coils from accumulating massive amounts of dust and fibers.

I used the cheap filters on our first AC system, never again. When it came time to replace the system you would not believe the thick layer of cat hair, fibers and dust that had accumulated over the coils.

I found this brand online and as far as I can tell you have to buy them in bulk. They look like regular ole pleated ones so I guess we'll see if Home Depot carries our size.

3M Filtrete makes a 24 x 24 x 1 pleated filter...meaning Lowe's and HD are likely 'targets'(get it? Target may have them although iit is not a super-common size, apparently).

We use two standalone hepa filters (one up and one down) and they have reduced the amount of dust on our A/C airfilters to almost nothing.

The hepa filters do get nasty and are a bit pricey.

I'm telling you, filters-now.com. Much cheaper than Home Depot or Lowes, no tax, and free shipping. And I think they carry every air filter ever made. Mine was on my doorstep in 2 days.

I did pick up a filter at HD at Mueller today -- they had 2 options for my size but I'll be ordering online for next purchases. Thanks mm57553.

Free shipping is only on some brands, like 3M; I just looked up our size, as it is unusual and a special order from Lowes. Not only are they much more expensive per filter (almost double the price for their cheapest one) but the shipping is another $7.99.
