Not many but there are some. Mostly east of 35 and in small areas of SE, E, and NE Austin.

Anyway, most schools have little kids that run around tagging things or acting like wangsters. It is for the most part just kid stuff.

Why do you ask?

Default Gangs

Basically, no. There are many "posers" trying to act gangster, but not a major problem. By the way, I'm from Los Angeles and moved to Austin four years ago. I've seen gangs in L.A. and Austin doesn't even come close to that!

Today's paper contains an article about a person arrested for making terrorist threats against the police department after an officer shot an African-American man who died instantly. The article says that the suspect is a member of the Bloods, a criminal gang with chapters throughout the USA. The man who died was also a Blood. The article said that there are currently 544 members in Austin.

"The man who died was also a Blood. The article said that there are currently 544 members in Austin."

Good Grief. There are not 544 members of the Bloods total, nationwide.

Did you check the latest roster?

Maybe new recruits from the past 6 months haven't been all documented yet.

Ask the member in charge of the roster to submit the latest head counts. What's his name?

There's Bloods, Crips, MS 13 for gangs that I know of. Not a big presence in Austin but I don't think any city is completely free of gangs.

There are no bad gangs to worry about. I only knew of one guy who was shot and killed, he was crip and he was shot by a blood. And that was in South Austin. Austin averages about 30 homicides a year, pretty safe for a city that size(pop.741,000).
