I am looking for a city that is:
**Small-a little rural but not farm county, but I don't want to be in huge city
**Good schools
**Low crime
**CLose enough to a city--within 30 some minutes so that if I have to work in one, I can
**My husband is a mailman-a city carrier, and I am a teacher. There have to be jobs close enough

Thanks so much!

Tyler is not in the Hill country however it is a nice town but it is in East Texas. IF you want to be closer to Austin you might try Dripping Springs or Kyle or Buda if you want to be closer to San Antonio (both of those large cities are on the outskirts if the hill county) you might try Boerne, or even Kerrville although Kerrvill is about 45 mins outside of SA. Good luck

Hays County, or NW of San Antonio, as Neddy suggest, will be your best bet.

Default Hill Country

When i retire, it will be in Marble Falls. it is a little further out, but worth it. Lakes, restaurants, standard of living. Golf. Much more than your average small town.

close in could be Manchaca, Driftwood or Dripping Springs. What is your budget? You may also be able to live in Lakeway. Believe it or not there are some very affordable homes out there.

New member. I am looking for similar. My wife and I both run a computer software business from our house and can live practically anywhere we can get Internet service (not that hard these days). We have lived 1 year in Chile [South America] and just came off 3 years of traveling in a RV in the USA (Arizona, California, Washington).

We decide Austin is where we want to settle down. We have spent the last 4 months renting a house in Austin and love the area, but want to find out what bargain yet great smaller towns/cities might be 45 miles or less from Austin.

We don't need fancy, we don't have any kids, in our late 30's / early 40's. Just want safe / friendly / getting better place as opposed to getting worse Any suggestions appreciated.

Still looking for suggestions. We have started to focus on Wimberly, Marble Falls. Any other similar areas?
