Hello,

Could anyone, please, recommend a good carpenter to install hardwood. floors. Also, any guestimate of how much it would cost for a 3300 sq foot house (minus kitchen and baths), assuming we buy high quality materials? How long does it usually take to install?
Thanks a lot in advance.

For tearout, figure in $1.00/square foot.

For prefinished you can figure about $2.00-$2.75/square foot for intstallation above the cost for wood/glue/nails. Prefinished wood can be had for $2.00-$8.00/square foot depending on the wood. Depending on the size of the crew, the job shouldn't take much more than a couple of days.

Finish in place floors work out about the same, the labor cost (and convenience cost) goes up but the price of wood goes down.

A good source for wood is Lumber Liquidators, they can hook you up with installers also.
