I've heard and read where people from out of state have fallen in love with Whataburger when visiting or moving near one. This is a Texas institution obviously, but I was just wondering what those of you from out of state thought about it? My brother in law owns a restaurant where Tony Boselli (ex-NFL Player) use to frequent when he was still playing and he would always talk about Whataburger. Well, low and behold, a few years ago he became a franchise owner in Florida and from what I've heard, is doing extremely well.

When I'm out of state for an extended period of time, I crave and can't wait to get back so I can eat there. Do any of you have similar stories and how do you think it compares to fast-food burger joints where you lived? Here's an article on Boselli and Whataburger in Florida.

Didn't see "Hate it" listed as an option.

Whataburger is similar in its devotion as In-and-Out is to Californians. There isn't usually a rationale.

I'm a Texan, and while Whataburger is fine, if I'm around fast-food joints, anyway, I'll likely choose an Ultimate Cheesburger (I can feel my arteries clogging as I type this), or a double Whopper.

I admit, when I was a teenager, Whataburger had the scoop on giant milkshakes. They were at least 64 ounces, and not particularly expensive. I didn't have a car with A/C, so these were de-riguer for many a trip.

Whataburger is #2 for local fast food. DQ is #1.

I think it's better than the national fast food chains, but it can be pricey.

Whataburger is just so-so in CA (In-and-Out burger rules that area) but I remember in the 80s when they were good... Same with Wendy's in the 80s... nicer meat and more moist.

They were open 24 hours and they took credit card before anyone else....made them a rite of passage if you were a student at UT in the 80s.

I've eaten there twice and it's horrible. I went once to Whataburger near Outback Steakhouse on I-35 terrible, terrible! The second one I went to was on HWY 79 near Chase bank and that one was also terrible so I gave up on them. In and Out burger was just o.k. to me. I guess I'm just a simple McDonald's fan.

Smile Just Like I Like It

Make no mistake about it: I love Whataburger! It's a Texas institution, with everything fresh and made right to my order. Ol' Harmon Dobson knew what he was doing in Corpus when the first Whataburger opened in 1950. It has become a Texas giant, and now there are few places in this great state that don't have one.
