I can't help but feel that the UT station will still be a decent walk from UT. I guess along the N.Lamar Rd section it's aligned but they really needed a line that would have went up Guadalupe St more than N.Lamar IMO... or atleast not the section between 5th/6th St and Guadalupe.

It also saddens me to see that it looks as though they anihalated the subway plans. They kept the line to the airport atleast which is an important link.

I am for more transit and was initially a strong supporter of the expansion but after realizing the costs vs what Austin will actually receive, it is feeling as though Austin is getting the short end of the stick. I can't remember if the plan included the Green Line expansion or not. If it does then that would be a bit more justifiable as far as costs go.

Dirty Martin’s Kum-Bak place is a true Austin/UT iconic institution on The Drag that has been in business for 98 years.
It has been a favorite of UT students, faculty, staff, & coaches for generations….and the new light rail plan threatens to destroy it.
Blasphemy!

In the previous iteration, a Guadalupe rail line was going to run right smack dab through Dirty’s location.
Maybe I need to squint harder at a more detailed updated map.

The harder squint reveals half the rail for double the cost of the original proposal, kind of like reading the fine print of most contracts

It does go down Guadalupe. The stop is at 24th/Guad, which is perfect for UT... it's essentially replacing the 801 Metro Rapid bus. Of all stops to complain about the one that is directly between UT and the densest neighborhood in the state (West Campus) is an interesting choice.

The initial implementation is less than $5B. Half the rail may be somewhat true, double the costs not so much. But yeah, the inflation since the pandemic is a *****. Hard to get around that.
