Apple Inc. is closing a 121-person team related to artificial intelligence operations in San Diego and relocating them to Austin, Texas. Employees have until the end of February to decide if they will relocate, or they will be terminated on April 26.

If it makes you feel better, I read an article about this a few days ago that said most of the employees don't want to move to Austin. So not sure how many will do that.

I read the same article. We forget that Texas isn't everyone's cup of tea, regardless of what the headlines try to state. San Diego is a lovely city with arguably the best weather in the country. I can understand how some wouldn't want to give it up, especially considering the cost savings with a move to Austin isn't as great as it use to be. Besides this A.I. division is already set up in Austin, they're just consolidating teams.

I guess it would wildly vary on alot of factors...
- current living conditions (renting? mortgage? paid off?)
- current salary (machine learning ranges between $100k - $300k)
- jobs within the same field local to me (SD is a Biotech city, not sure how prosperous AI is there, especially compared to SV)

If I were making $100k and renting with room mates, I may consider the move.
If I had a home and it were paid up or paid off.. I wouldn't budge.

Most recruits will likely be locals in any case.
