Me and my 10th grader boy until school starts...any suggestions for (multiple) drives? Willing to drive to 10 to 12 hours...been to Taos, Santa Fe, White Sands...missed out Carlsbad.

Appreciate any suggestions...

Thanks!

Crappy thing about where we live is there arent many non-texas places that are interesting to travel to without driving a long way. I kinda have wanted to see SantaFe but not enough to make a direct excursion to it. There 'may' be snow and ice in the region of SantaFe & Taos as well (or you may have to pass through it to reach it) due to high elevation. Add an hour and some change to your trip and you can be in Denver if you take a different route, although I personally probably wouldn't travel there at this time of the year.

Big Bend is still good in the winter. Or Guadalupe Mounts Ntl Park. Not much precipitation this year at all out west, not even snow so far. Roads are clear. I will be driving from Austin to El Paso after Christmas and then up to Ruidoso after the new year. Skiiing looks like it will be minimal due to low snowfall, but some of the lifts are/will be open. I get to stay in El Paso and wife/kids drive back without me .

New Orleans. Take a swamp and/or plantation tour. Return via north route for variety rather than out and back.
