Kind of surprised to see Tacoma WA on that list. I used to live near there. It wasn't what I would consider as a heavily sought out destination at the time.

I heard this air love and Hoda was floored and shocked. She was like “OMG. WHERE IS ROUND ROCK SO I CAN GO THERE.” I can see Tacoma being a destination spot for outdoorsy folks, hikers, water sports (kayaking, fishing, etc.) and might be a tad less expensive than the other PNW areas.

Meh, I guess. Maybe it has changed some.. It is an retired ex-military town that was crime and drug infested, much more so than Austin metro. I had a drug dealer jump into my car while I was parking once. Had to punch him out. It is dislocated by a giant military base and eternal traffic on I-5 and very stereotyped by the blue collar workforce since it is a port city (i.e. employers would classify you if you so much as mentioned that you lived there it would disqualify you from some white collar jobs, the blue collar employers never paid their employees on time, if it all.) Scenery is nice and offerings are okay, but so is the rest of western WA. I would say Olympia should easily surpass Tacoma, likewise should anywhere else along the Puget Sound. Cost may be a factor, but there was a reason that Tacoma was so affordable when I lived there. My time there wasn't exactly wonderful.

Speaking of region growth, here you go ashbeeigh, the one thing you've always wanted... ...a $20 billion rail between Austin and San Antonio....

https://www.sacurrent.com/news/new-a...efore-32153360

TBH if it could be down for a fraction of the cost I'd be down for it but $20 Billion could pretty much triple the capacity of I-35 all the way to SATX... not like either idea is going to happen in either of our lifetimes, but its fun to speculate.

Zero importance to me at this point since I’m only driving to Kyle now. (Also way off topic).

The investors that wrote the article aren't talking about the weather, they're talking about the sellers market

As a resident of Round Rock for over 8 years, and a resident of Pflugerville for 10, I agree - we don't need anymore people!

At the same time, I do like all of the amenities that are available. Just about every conceivable thing I'd desire is local and we're getting more and more restaurants. The downtown area is nice too. The Hutto explosion is actually great (amenity-wise) for my part of town.

Heavy traffic on 79 isn't great though.

Contradictions, I know.

It would be nice if they could build overpasses over the major intersections that cross Hwy 79. I-35 in RR seriously needs to be widened. It is worse in Round Rock than it is through Pflugerville and N.Austin (atleast until you reach 290)

That Samsung plant in Taylor is certainly going to further hamper Hwy 79.
