I see this is the year Austin is projected to go over a million. I do believe Austin recently passed San Jose to make Top 10 biggest cities in the country as San Jose fell below a million. It does seem like the pace of growth has slowed in Austin and Ft Worth is projected to pass Austin in population during this decade, which would kick Austin out of the Top 10.

Meh, I've always considered San Jose and San Francisco as one unit. I know they are two separate MSA's, but there is nothing but continuous development in all directions between those two cities and they're much closer together than say Austin and San Antonio.

i think metro area is a much better way to compare populations. Austin is #30.

the city itself is just an artifact of city boundaries. Orange county california is absolutely huge and is solid developement. Each of the cities is relatively small, but they really are one big megacity.
