"A KXAN analysis showed Israel won most of the precincts east of MoPac Expressway, while Watson won downtown and areas of west Austin."
Celia represents the common people and not just the Austin elite.

She is very qualified and been on many types of committees in her roles in government. See this page: https://victoryfund.org/candidate/celia-israel/

BOTH, The Austin Statesman AND The Austin Chronicle endorse her! https://www.austinmonitor.com/storie...orsing-israel/

https://www.texastribune.org/directory/celia-israel/

She does not have BIG money like Watson to buy more voters, her worth must be spread person to person!

Don't let money decide this race! "The former state senator has raised 3.5 times as much as State Representative Celia Israel, although her $350,000-plus tally should keep her in the running. She has $288,000 in cash on hand. Watson has more than 12 times that much."

Reasons to not vote for Kirk watson:
He has "been there, done that", and yet he wants another crack at leading city government. Time for new leadership, time for a non-lawyer to be Mayor!

Watson represents to me the "good ole white boy" attitude, not totally, he is often liberal somewhat, but I think we need some new blood.

Haven't looked into either candidate nor do I have a dog in this raffle, but the bolded is an area where I strongly agree ... we need less lawyers in politics in general.

I'm getting tired of politicians, and their supporters, using the Samson V Goliath paradigm to garner support. It's a cliche at this point. Also getting tired of the "common people" as if this is some demographic slice that knows best and is somehow morally superior.

Watson is a reasonable moderate who is very much grounded in reality. For example he know that IH-35 will continue to exist along the current ROW so best to work with TxDOT to make it the best possible upgrade for Austin while still maintaining its role as an Interstate Highway that spans the country.

The Austin Chronicle are a bunch of loons so I could not care less what they think. The Statesman is a shell of its former self and the amount of talent and insight there is severely lacking.

I legitimately decided who I was voting for in the general election while waiting in line and sm glad I’m team Celia. I just watched the KVUE debate and Kirk was just kind of a knit picky jerk. I know they are very close to each other policy wise and have very similar backgrounds in their political career, but Kurt feels like a guy who runs and continues to relive that one really good race that happened 20 years ago and won’t let anyone forget about it. He kept asking her to refer to bills she passed. Like I get it shows a sign of success, but just like standardized testing, the results don’t always match up on the actual quality of the person.

I agree, even though I have no dog in this race, so to speak.
Reading your description of Kirk, reminded me of Al Bundy. Can't let those four touchdowns in one high school football game 20 years ago be forgotten.

That is a pretty extreme view, and a large part of the reason I didn't vote for her. I also think she is in the defund the police camp, despite what she says. She's a hard leftist. Watson is a democrat too, but more of a moderate.

Yea, technically we all have rights to housing but not an entitlement to housing. Austin does have a housing crisis though. I did like the theory of her campaign in increasing inventory through the middle housing campaign, but the fact that she is a realtor whom also owns two houses would make me a bit skeptical of her and any housing campaign.
