Thanks, I'll look into it.

It isn't exactly low crime, though. It is just better than M/O. I would personally look to small town West Texas if you are looking specifically for western areas - I.e. Van Horn or Ft. Stockton. If you are not looking west for any particular reason, Tyler or Longview or something East might work better.

What’s the deal with Midlands roads being dangerous anyway? I noticed some surface roads with 75 MPH speed limits, although technically we have roads like that too just further outside of Austin. Is it the Pickup Trucks / Road Rage? Kinda like that incident I had on I-35 awhile back?

Young oil field workers + money + few women = alcohol/drugs and driving.

Specifically meth. That’s why crime skyrockets when oil drops below $49 and most of the roughnecks get laid off.

I best friend from 1980s Austin is a professor at UTPB. It's a stepping stone position with future hopes of UT Austin.

When I last visited and stayed in their beautiful $350K home that would cost $800K in Austin proper, the wife sort of held back when I aksed "how to you like Odessa? Saying only, "there sure are a lot of white pickup trucks". Which, having known her since her late teens, was her way of saying "it really sucks".

I can't imagine a conservative 30-something eligible female seeking the man pool of Midland/Odessa. Not that a worthy suitor doesn't exist somewhere there, it's just "why go there"?

+1 on the Longview/Tyler suggestion. You'd be 2 hours from DFW, 5 hours from Austin, instead of stranded in West TX.

All that said, I challenge your rationale as stated. You won't feel safer in a dusty oil town filled with drink men and tweakers.

The only reason someone moves to midland is for a job in the oil industry. I can't imagine a single professional woman moving there voluntarily. Do you know someone there that says it's great?

If you want a safe place for a professional young conservative woman. Any suburb with a church. All of Texas's suburbs would fit your bill. Suburb or Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Houston, etc..

It sounds like you live in a sketchy part of Austin, (riverside?). Just go live out in Leander, problem solved.

p.s. Also, the homeless situation has gotten way better in the last month. As for crime, that's a statistic that the nightly news tries to scare you with. We are no South Chigaco here.
