Hello,

I'd appreciate guidance on where to park near the Hilton downtown - 500E 4th St. The Hotel wants $40 a day for parking, I'm sure there are other options. Thank you.

Unfortunately, unless you’re going to street park and move your car every few hours, parking downtown will cost a lot. You can check apps like spot hero to see if there’s anything less expensive, but I don’t think there will be much out there.

Plenty of other options. None more affordable.

I’m guessing you’re driving in and staying at the Hilton… If you’re not staying at the Hilton and you are in a different part of the city and only coming there for seminars or events then I would either use Cap Metro Rail (if accessible) or Uber/Lyft. I stopped parking Downtown within a year of moving here.

you might be able to park near the mlk station (free street parking) and then take a scooter/metro rail/uber to get to your car

Your brain is playing tricks on you. Just add $40 to the cost of the room and call it "free parking". That's what the room would cost is free parking was included. They break out profit centers for accounting/tax purposes.

Hotels that offer room rates includive of parking, simply have it built into the room rate, and so it doesn't upset us because our brains like "free parking" even though it's really not.

If it really bugs you:
1) Park on a residential street for free over in Tarrytown and take a $8 Uber to and from your hotel.
2) Check with cheaper hotels for 24hr valet prices, park there instead and walk. But it it really worth $30?

Enjoy Austin! You'll blow more than $40 a day having fun anyway.

Steve

If you won't need your car while you're there, park for free on one of the side streets west of Lamar and 5th St / 6th St and take the bus to your hotel. Some streets are paid or permit parking, but others are free and unrestricted.

Don't be ashamed for wanting to save $40/day on parking, that's real money especially if you're in town for more than a day or two.
