We lived in Round Rock and moved out in 2015. Now we are looking towards moving back to Texas, so I would like to ask how is it going with girls hockey in Austin? I know there are girls teams in Dallas, but North Austin/Round Rock is definitely more familiar areas for us.

My daughter is playing 14U AA ice hockey team and she really would like to continue play with girls or in co-ed non-checking league. I remember there were no girls ice hockey in Austin back when we lived here and Chaparrel ice closed facility closest to Round Rock. How is it now? If anyone knows parents of 14U girl playing ice hockey we would be happy to connect and ask couple questions.

best regards,
Max

There is a new ice facility on 183A "across" from the HEB Center...That's likely your best bet.
Center is called the CrossOver...seems the rink is a Chaparral venture.

There IS a thriving girls' hockey program in Austin, but it is still small and may not offer the level of play your daughters are used to. Many girls wanting to play competitive hockey end up playing for the "Texas" girls teams, which are comprised of skaters from throughout the state and most often practice in Dallas. The weekends are pre-scheduled so you'd know when to go.

Beyond that, Austin does have a high school, co-ed, no-checking league. There are practices Tuesday and games on Sunday. These are taking place at the Chaparral Ice's Crossover location in CP/Leander.

Try calling Chaparral Ice and speaking with the general manager, Angie Vaught. She has been instrumental in getting girls' hockey to be more popular.

Good luck!

Thank you a lot, it appears I even have Angie's email address in my mailbox. I will try to reach her.
