i protest every year without fail as a matter of principal. you do need to get from the appraisal office the list of properties they have compared to yours. drive by them, see if they are a valid comparison. i have had them compare my property to properties that are not a valid comparison (comparing my property to ones in gated communities with security etc)......i have found that generally they will try to find some way to give you even an itty-bitty break which doesn't seem like much, but over the course of your homeownership, becomes significant.

Out of curiousity, TXHorseLady and Steve, what are you usually demonstrating with the pictures you bring? Condition of property? Like roof, paint, etc.. or size/shape of lot, proximity to busy intersection? Or are you bringing pics of the comps you are using to justify the valuation?

My experience is more like chickenfry's. I protest each year, and include data such as comps and maps but no photos. I will always get offered some trivial reduction, and sometimes can get a little more, but it's usually not much.

Probably a better forum for this is on Digital Camera Reviews and News: Digital Photography Review: Forums, Glossary, FAQ - click on the forums button on the left for Canon and you will have lots of people who can help.

Here's a quick tip.

RAW files - go to the canon website and download the software for the 40D - EOS Viewer I believe. There you can convert into .jpg.

Next, go into your camera menu and select .jpg instead of RAW if you don't want to deal with RAW files.
