Question for people who know this area.

I found a house that looks nice, but which is really low price wise. I looked at the Microsoft map thing and there is a big "something" to the right of it. Is that some sort of sand and gravel pit to the right of the house with the "push pin"?

I wonder if they are still allowed to blast? Anyways, I think that is some of the land that RR and GT were fighting over. It should be homes eventually. Only problem there could be an "endless" supply of new homes that really would pressure resales.

So it is a quarry of some sort?

That is Texas Crushed Stone. It is still an active quarry.

Very active. There are still many rock hauling tractor/trailer combinations in that area pulling rock all day most every day. We lost a windshield to one of 'em.

Taylor is a nice town. I go out there on Wednesday's during the summer to buy from the Farmer's Market they have. They have a nice new Wallymart and a nice new HEB. Plus you have your standard DQ. A sprinkling of new subdivisions with quite a few older homes in nice established neighborhoods. Not a lot of big box has invaded so the town has kept it's "small town" feel. Just stay north of the intersection of 79 and 95 (south of that is an iffy section of town).

I use to live in that neighborhood! We sold our house there 3 months ago....lived there for 8 years. Anyway, it is a rock quarry. They blast once a day, almost every day, in the middle of the day. Some days you notice it, others you don't. On the days you notice it it sounds like a boom.

I live along 1431 near the Top Rock address. We have been here 2 years. There are gravel trucks running in and out of the quarry--but never had a problem. There seem to be trucks and semis all over I35 and RR. There is no way I'd chose to live in Taylor rather than RR near the quarry. They do blast about once a day--it's more of a 2 sec rumble--and not a big deal. The neighborhoods, schools, and nearby amenities and location to Austin are more desirable than Taylor to me.
