OMG near or over 100 every day in MAY!! I don't remember a May being this hot so soon! what does this mean for the rest of the summer? Are we in for a hellish summer this year? (Well, worse than usual).

I've got new shrub/tree that I'm having to water every 3 days with an automatic timed irrigation controller (Orbit water timer). I thought I'd be doing starting 3x/week in late June, not now.

What kind of summer are we in for?

I'm totally stunned that on the weekend, I get out to work in the yard at the crack of dawn and am still totally drenched within 15 minutes. maybe the humidity? This is oh-so-not fun!

What, do I need to get out there at 4AM with a flashlight?? Ha!

Texas, I love ya, but freakin' holy cow!

I did grow up in Texas (Houston) and lived in the Austin area for many years, so you'd think I'd be used this this by now. Musta been those years living in Colorado that spoiled me. I think I'm better with the cold & snow than this hellpit! Oy!

Eh this is about average. Still not the worst we have to look forward to. June will be hotter. July will be really HOT, stay indoors hot.
But August. HAHAHAHAHHAALALALA oh man. Oh god. AHAHAHAhAHAh August.
HAHAHAHAHAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!
August, yea.
Yall gonna learn what its like to be Texans come August!

Best to research a place before you move.

Ohh man. Whew. Yea August. Might wanna sell that new car you just bought with the leather seats by August. Or ya might die. At least pre-order some skin grafts.

Good news is it will let up a bit in September again, might get back down to 90 even.
And this year wont even be that bad. Heck, shoulda been here for the drought a while back. That. That was bad. *eye twitch* But this, this just means that "Not-Summer" has ended, the other season we have "Summer" has barely started, check back in October for "Not-Summer" to start creeping back.

I WAS here for the drought "a while back". And I already know what it's like to be a Texan. Spent the first 40 years of my life here in Houston and Austin. A few years break in Colorado and been back in Austin since 2000. So yeah, I'm a native Texan. But I don't remember May being so wickedly hot. Maybe a short memory.

But I think this is unusual heat for May.

Unusual, but not unheard of. It happens.

We had a freakishly cold winter, so summer is making up for it with a hellishly hot summer

My tactic, go outside as much as possible every day to go ahead and get used to the months of heat.

THis is actually a good strategy. When I go out on the weekend to work in the yard, I just resign myself to get as sweaty and messed up as I possibly can. And I DO!! By the time I come back in I'm beyond a hot mess. But somehow when you're in the zone of being a total sweaty wreck, it just doesn't seem that bad anymore. But I finally start to feel a little lightheaded and know I've had enough. That's by 10AM!

It's when I come in and shower and get all cleaned up that I wimp out and refuse to sweat one tiny bit for the rest of the day. Hey, I earned it!

But I dread something like my car breaking down on the commute home on I35 at 5PM in the dead of summer. Can't imagine any worse predicament.

Imagine this, the summer of 2000 or 2001 (can't remember) and it's 107 in Dallas and my car breaks down with my ex-wife and ex-inlaws who were visiting from Switzerland. This was on I-635. I had to call a wrecking company and my brother-in-law to pick us up.

My brother-in-law is never known for tact and he said "Well now her parents know what it felt like when the original European settlers came to Texas."

This is the formula for heat.

Go outside, get sweaty.
Jump in pool, cool off or go inside, drink cold beer or margarita and cool off
Repeat.

When it's about time to go out, take a lukewarm shower (or cold shower if you're naturally warm blooded).
Then put your nice clothes on (in Austin that may be almost the same as what you wore earlier, but it's clean), then go out on the town. If you've had enough of the heat, stay in the cool A/C. Or if you want some fresh air pick one of those patios with a mister.

It ain't a bad life.
