Man has anyone noticed how much larger the Austin skyline has gotten ? It actually looks like a big city now.I saw so many cranes. Is Austin officially a "big city" now?

Not entirely but definitely getting close.

600 Guadeloupe is A 67 story in the pipeline that should help break up the 40 story pleatu of buildings Austin seems to get.

Independent is coming along wonderful as is Austin proper. With how many buildings are in the works, just breaking ground and are in some sort of devolpent it won’t be too long until Austin really gets a “big” city skyline.

The new Marriott on Cesar Chavez will add height in that area as well, it was surface lots and a few one story buildings.

I think it's somewhat interesting to see the DIFFERENCES in the recent skyline views vs one or two decades ago; but, coming from Atlanta, I'm not too terribly impressed with a bunch of tallish buildings. Especially since I try to bicycle through all the construction mess each weekend.

A couple of months ago, I counted at least 10 cranes on the east side of 35 in the downtown area. I suppose it's more high rise condos. Does anybody know what the vacancy rate is in the downtown condos? I suppose they are pretty much filled up or why else would they keep building them? They are literally in every direction you turn. I am surprised there are enough people in Austin who make enough money they are able to afford to live in the downtown high rises. Do any of them sell for less than half a million dollars?

Set to double again in a few years. When do we pass up Dallas? Then Houston?

I predict both Austin and Ft Worth will pass Dallas before 2030. I doubt Austin will ever pass Houston, at least not in my lifetime it won't, and I'm 63.

I know several young, single, well-paid tech workers that live downtown and commute to the periphery to work every day. I know a retired couple from Miami that sold their place there and bought a condo here and a home in N. Carolina. They split their time between the two places.

Don't know much other than that, so not sure it really enlightens anything .

More enlightening than you might think. Reminds me of the stories over the last couple of years of lower middle class people in L.A selling their houses and buying new ones, in Westlake. Driving some of the locals to fits.
