Hi Everyone!

So I have been looking into a Pulte Home at Pearson Place in North Austin. I have been doing some research on Pulte Homes and the reviews are not that great. I understand that most reviews are from people who have something to complain about and not so much satisfied customers.

- My main concern is the quality of Pulte Homes. If anyone has any feedback on how good the quality of Pulte Homes are compared to CalAtlantic/Drees/Taylor Morrison.
- What is like to work with Pulte Home builders?

Thanks!

Overall Pulte has a good reputation, certainly on the same level or even high than the other national builders you listed. But you can't just rely on the "brand name" of the builder, I would ask for detailed specifications for any home you are looking at having built (size of lumber, thickness of plywood, type and depth of insulation, type of windows, type of exterior cladding, type of interior trim) that is the only way you can compare. For production builders (and honestly custom builders too) the biggest determinant of quality is the specific site supervisor and the quality of the subcontractors and those things lie beyond your control. Work with a realtor who is familiar with the new build process and hire your own inspector and have them inspect the foundation, before the drywall goes up, and at completion. Good luck!

We were steered away from Pulte when we were shopping for homes by a Realtor friend and some folks who owned one. Both said build quality was poor.

The house we ended up buying is a Morrison home, and we've been very happy with it. No problems. We even got 17 years out of the original (builder installed) HVAC and water heaters. The people we had replace them even commented that the builder put in really high quality units and didn't skimp on size, which many do.

I have also heard really good things from people who own Drees homes. Don't know anything about CalAtlantic.

But I agree with the person who said that you get what you pay for. If you're getting a 3,000 square foot house for $250K, chances are it's not made with the highest quality materials.
