When you consider the amount of time looking for parking (and possibly paying for it) bike trips become even more palatable.

I live in '02 now and amenities in north '04 are more accessible by bike than when I was living in '45, because '45 does stretch that far south.
And you don't reflect the totality of the population. Good luck getting your three year old to ride their bike that far. Besides, they won't know the difference between Zilker Park and Garrison Park.

All those amenities you list are at the faaaaaar north border of 04. They are a car ride away, whether you live in 04 S of Oltorf, or 45.
Yep. I can remember when NO ONE would consider moving to South Austin (as you say, it was known as Bubbaland). Then some people secretly did - it took us a while to realize, much to our delight, that the Austin that we thought was lost had simply gone into hiding south of the river. We moved there in 1988 and much of what you describe was still that way.

Now, we lived south of Oltorf, around Barton Skyway and Lamar, and my husband and daughter DID walk to breakfast of a Saturday morning on Barton Springs Road, but there was an entrance to the greenbelt just a step away from our door - and they only walked one way, I went and picked them up with the car when they were ready to come home.

Steve?
The sprouts at wm cannon and manchaca use to be a hobby lobby and before that it was an Appletree grocery store and before that, in the early 80's i believe, it was a Safeway grocery. The building is dated. I think the shape of the building looks like an A&P grocery store from mid 1960's. The could use a new modern building there, thats fer sure.
