Do tell! I have heard that it is a nightmare from one person.

If you are going there for school, take the bus or live close enough to wake or ride your bike. I went to undergrad there (loved it btw) and I lived both close and far away. First two years I lived close and walked to class. Then I moved off Riverside to some student developments for my junior year. It was much cheaper and the places were marketed to students because you could get more bang for your buck. Ended up taking the bus everyday to class because parking was non-existent. Hated it! Moved back to campus my last year. Sucked it up. Lived in a smaller place and paid more. But I was able to walk to class or ride my bike. Loved it.

I am in San Antonio and they did a news report on the Parking at UTSA and UT and the ratios were 1 car to every 20 spots (I believe) at UT and 1 to 2 at UTSA (the UTSA kids we complaining so they pointed out it could be worse!)

The parking situation at EVERY university stinks. Like I was told once, when you buy a parking permit it does not gaurantee a parking place. All it does is give you the right to hunt for a parking space. LOL!!! So true, so true.

What are the cheapest effeciancies near campus?
How bad is the walking?
Can you say anything more about the UT campus? The professors, people, attitude and buildings?

I graduated in 1999, so I can't really tell you where specifically to live anymore. But, generally, West Campus (area west of Guadalupe Street) was more expensive, but with nicer places. North Campus (north of 26th Street along Speedway) was a little cheaper, but not as nice. As you move further east toward the highway, it gets even cheaper in North Campus. But that is a pretty good walk to the main part of campus; the main exception being the law school, which is pretty close to that area.

Walking is fine all around campus. Huge portions of the school are completely shut to traffic, which make it great. I would also invest in a cheap bike, which will make it easy to get around pretty wherever you want in and around campus. But, don’t lock a nice bike around school; makes a prime target for theft.

Good luck!

neddy,

I remember reading a couple of years ago that some students at UTSA were given parking spaces at Fiesta Texas and bused to the campus. Is this still happening?
