Hi all from Houston--

my college roommates and I are meeting in Austin for the weekend and we are looking for fun things to do.....

Does anyone have any suggestions? Good restaurants? Not too expensive spas? Other ideas?

First things first...grab a Chronicle. find out what's jumping.

1. hit the club scene, 2nd-6th streets.
2. hit up one of the Lakes and get some sun. (clothing optional)
3. hit up the Oasis and catch the sunset
4. hit up something to eat . lots of places.

go home and keep it to yourself because what happens in Austin, stays in Austin

all this depends on your budget.

Default Girls Weekend

When I have my friends in town we like to check out some of the places on W Sixth street between San Antonio & Lamar.

Sandra Bullock owns 2 place that are fun to visit.
1. Bess Bistro- In the garden level of a historic building, exquisitely restored with a really elegant bar. Good food and sometimes celebrity spotting.
2. Walton's Fancy & Staple- Great for a casual lunch or pastry snack.
Both offer very tasty food.

Huts Hamburgers another block west on 6th. Great burgers and a really fun atmosphere. Doesn't look like much from the outside.

There is also the always interesting food trailers, grouped in different areas of the city.

If you're looking for something a bit more upscale & hip try Second Bar & Kitchen at Second & Congress. Yummy hand made cocktails using fresh ingredients and good small plates.

Thank you SO much!!! Austin was awesome- I wish I could move there!!! So fun, such delicious restaurants, great service, fresh food, nice ambiance, people walking around- I loved it. We loved the trails by the lake, seeing people running around with their dogs, enjoyed the pool... I love, love, LOVED Austin and will be a walking advertisement from now on!!!
