We have been trying to find a vacation rental in Aiken for Feb and Mar as we are looking to buy a home there. We haven't found a place to buy or a rental and many Augusta rental options are shown when you search for Aiken. We may have to rent in Augusta and would like to know what areas a safe, quiet and decent. I know nothing about the area.

How are you searching for rentals? I know there are quite a few AirBnB properties available around Aiken you could likely do for a long term rental like that if you'd prefer to stay close to there.

I've used airbnb and vrbo. I have pets so options are more limited. In spite of that I've found places and then the owner backs out - oh, sold the house, oh, letting friends stay there instead of renting, etc. Never had a problem like this with a short term stay. I've heard airbnb can be flakey and I guess that's true.

There are of course lots of rentals near Augusta National. I've driven by there and it didn't seem like a great area but I wasn't looking closely. Is that a reasonble area to stay?

Okay - I found a couple places between #28 and Riverwatch Pkwy - a little north of Lake Olmstead. The Google map shows Windsor Forest to the north and West End to the south. What is this area like?

Fairly quiet area as far as I know. Never really hear about it in the news. Older, but well-maintained homes and grounds for the most part as I recall.

I found a map and this area is in a yellow zone across the water from a red zone. I found a place in a green zone but it's not available for all the dates I want. So two weeks in the yellow zone and then I move to the green zone.

I have no idea what you're referring to regarding yellow, red and green zones.
