Augusta was one of the six cities selected by Netflix.

I was impressed when I first heard about this, but couldn't help but wonder if they had ulterior motives. Now that I've seen the finished product, it's clear it was nothing but an advertisement. Certainly an attraction of sorts that I'm sure will bring many curious folks downtown to check out, but not quite a "donation" as it was often referred to. Makes me feel a bit like Ralphie on A Christmas Story when he was using his decoder ring only to find out it was "a crummy commercial".

$10,000 worth of free decorations and lights is a donation. No matter the advertisement or marketing. They put up the decorations and installed the lights without the city having to spend a dime.

Using that logic, every billboard, bus stop poster or sign on Washington Rd is a "donation". Lots of "donations" pop up along Washington Rd during Masters week I guess. It's an advertisement. Just because it looks nice doesn't make it any less of an advertisement.

It’s very beautiful there. I had the chance to visit today and take a few photos! Thanks, Netflix!
