Was having this conversation with my mom the other day, what would you say are some of the most iconic Restaurants and Bars in Atlanta from at least 40 years ago that are still open.

My mom said some of her favorites are; Atlanta Fish Market, Houston's on Peachtree, The Varsity (of course), Johnny's Hideaway, and Mary Mac's Team Room.

Which ones do you have, or any good memories?

The first one that comes to mind is the Colonnade, opened in 1927.

Others:

Mary Mac's Tea Room (opened 1945)
Golden Buddha (opened 1974)
Petite Violette (opened as Petite Auberge in 1965)
Bambinellis (opened 1980)
Athens Pizza (opened 1966)
Havana Sandwich Shop (opened 1962)

Majestic Diner
Manuel's Tavern
Smith's Olde Bar
Clermont Lounge

Does The Masquerade still count if it has been re-located?

Sure it does. Three of my picks were.

Thought of two more:

Atkins Park Restaurant(founded 1922 as a deli)
Moes and Joes(founded 1947) - I remember that when I stopped in for a drink in 1982, the waiter remembered my father as an Emory student in 1948.

When I was a kid my mother would tell us that she and my dad were dining at Nikolai's Roof. I thought she was saying Nickel Eyes Ruth.

And how could I forget La Grotta (founded 1978)?
