I get my water from Gwinnett County. I am not interested in water softening and my house was built in the 2000s, is a whole home filtration system worth it still? Right now we drink from the basic refrigerator filter.

I'd get an under sink reverse osmosis filter before I did anything else.

There's more than likely more pollutants in the air in your home, than the water from the faucet. Stick with the fridge filtered water. Don't waste your $.

Gwinnett County has an extremely well set up water system and is generally cutting edge at how they deal with water and treated wastewater.

They even house a water innovation and research lab, which is an atypical thing for most counties to invest in.

You really only need a filter if there is a local problem in the specific area you live in that impacts the local pipes that are causing problems to your internal plumbing. The fridge water filter is fine.

We also get our water from very high up in the watershed, compared to most major cities. Lake Lanier has a very small area that drains into it, but part of it is a temperate inland rainforest. This means the water hasn't traveled as far between rain and the water filtration plant.

A fridge filter does practically nothing except for flavor and large particles like sediment. If you want to remove things like lead and copper just get an inexpensive reverse osmosis filter for the kitchen. One of the largest producers is here in Atlanta and they truly work for removing everything.

Some lead and copper in your water won't harm you. As stated, you have more to worry about with all the off gassing of pollutants in the air inside your home.
