Close it down already. Before this, it was one of the leading sites of tuberculosis in the nation.

Drug resistant tuberculosis.

It's a cesspool.

How this place continues to exist is one of the great mysteries of our time.

We really do need better places for these people to go. I'm all for helping the homeless, but Peachtree-Pine is literally a cesspool. It just spreads disease, reinforces addictions, and provides captive audience for criminals to prey on.

We really do need better options for our homeless, to get clean, to heal, and to get help.

Active duty sergeant killed while trying to help homeless | WSB-TV

Sounds like this story, it's time to rid the area of this scar.

I've volunteered at another shelter that was a model place, people hung out outside, but it wasn't bad or dirty/disgusting, this place is horrid for the residents and for the city.

Hokiehaven, can you share what shelter that was (one you volunteered at)?

Btw, I do feel like Mayor Reed is trying to put these people in better digs. A new shelter with better amenities and services.

He has, at least, been trying to shut Pine down. They keep coming back and fighting in court, and somehow wining.

This is one of those comparative issues of private-based charity vs. government-run social services. Yes it can work out, but Pine is a case where the lack of government control is causing real problems, actively harming people.

Maybe it's time for a real, city/county push for a system of treatment and reintegration?

Edit: If I have this wrong, I would love to chat about it. I am interested in the topic, and would like to know more details.
