How MARTA bus-to-train or train-to-bus transfer works? (to buy, shop)

Hi,

I'm an international student at Georgia Tech using MARTA for few weeks. I found during this time I was paying double fare , as I had no idea about the transfer policy on MARTA. It's mentioned in MARTA's website,

You may transfer for free by tapping again immediately on the bus or at the station at your point of exit.

Could someone please clarify me what should I do when I'm, for example, transferring from bus-to-train? Should I need to tap breeze card while leaving the bus, and then the transfer would be automatically approved when I get on the train?

And what about while I'm leaving the train station and boarding on bus. I find everyone taps the card to open the door on exit. Do I need to tap breeze card one more time on exit, and then the transfer would be automatically approved when I'd board on the bus?

You need to tap when you leave the train station but not when you leave the bus

In principle it should work. i.e. after taping and rinding a MARTA bus, exiting the bus and taping at the train station entrance should not incur any additional cost. Although I haven't checked this myself.

Yes, exactly. You need to tap at the train station exit in order to qualify for a bus ride at no extra cost.

Now, note that things could be a little different if you are riding a Gwinett county transit or Cobb community transit bus (for details, see their resp. websites).

If you ride MARTA every day, and work for GeorgiaTech, a very useful option is to buy a monthly discounted Marta pass provided by Gatech (Students: $58.50, Faculty & Staff: $73.80, as of Oct 2011). With that, you could have unlimited rides over the whole month.
