Had a family member get a quote on a chain link fence for a somewhat odd-shaped 1/2 acre for $40k. That seems outrageous to me — is install difficult due to rocky terrain (lot is fairly flat)? Is this kind of the norm for fencing in Arizona or is something wrong with this estimate?

$60 a foot for chain link fencing is way above the norm of $18-$30 a foot.

Depends on what part of Arizona you're talking about. There's a huge lava field that runs from near Show Low to almost Eagar. Digging here sometimes is through rock.
