I don't mind them using the interest money off the Trust fund though to help fund our education system. Dipping into the principle of the fund would be a no go. Any way you look at it...if people are going to judge the educational preparedness of a state by how much it spends per pupil...we are going to have to raise taxes in order to pay for it. Teachers should be paid better, schools should have the tools they need to prepare kids to compete in the future and we NEED to keep funding the Arts.

So arguably...and I am only taking Maricopa county into account here as the largest county in AZ...the desire it to increase annual spend in AZ by $350M with this bill. FY 2015, Maricopa County brought in $4B in property taxes. If Maricopa county increased the property taxes by 10% of tax (not 10% of property value...10% of taxes), the County alone would pull in $400M and I end up paying an additional say $20 more per month for property taxes. That, in addition to the $5.3B it already spends on Schools...would that be enough? How many would support that? Problem with that is you are tying school funding to property values of the County and inflation, not the amount of students that are actually attending.

The people chose to designate tax dollars to education. The state chose to tell the people to get bent. Now they continue with this half baked scheme while taking another slash to education in the proposed budget

Sometimes you have to wade through the Alan's to get to the Steve's.

Treasurer: Ducey aides threatened retribution. Governor's chief: 'We do not bully people like that'

Saga intensifies

Quote:
When DeWit resisted, according to notes filed by Deputy Treasurer Sean Dollman, Ducey’s chief of staff, Kirk Adams, told the treasurer what would happen if he opposed the plan: He would be attacked by “dark money,” the anonymous donations that have increasingly influenced politics in Arizona and nationally.

Surely our best interests are at heart...
