Buckeye is about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs away. 2-3 hours seems to be the magic numbers to get to any city from here.

I'm there only in the winter. I dry camp in the gorgeous desert. It is the most beautiful desert there can be. Can't describe it well enough to make it as real as it is. Ajo has a good library, a great medical clinic staffed by excellent people who are devoted to the community, a picturesque plaza with a super good deli. The summer is hot and has the monsoon rains (interesting). One understands the term white hot because the sun shines straight down. You turn off the hot water tank for cold water as the cold water is very hot. There are very lively churches. Not sure you will find much of interest to a 25 yr old unless you like being out in the open spaces. The sky at night it tops and the military keeps it very interesting.

If you are moving to Ajo be aware that there is, and has been for years, an undercurrent of drugs (meth in paticular) within Ajo and passing through Ajo. Winter visiters do not notice these things as they have rose-colored glasses on during their wonderful stay in the beautiful desert. In reference to a post here, some people who work in the medical field frequently are paying off student loans by working in "underserved areas" and will move on when their loans are paid. It is true that there is a beauty in the desert, however, living two hours away from "life-saving facilities" and more than one type of grocery store, not to mention entertainment that is provided in-doors, can be difficult for any age person on a year-around basis, year in and year out. However, if you love being out of doors and are not interested in becoming involved with the community, then this is the place to live, or visit during the winter months. I noticed when living there that being white didn't matter to those in the community. Good luck to you if you decide to live in Ajo. It has the best air quality of any place I have ever lived.

Obviously, if I need to explain it, it's only funny to me. Sometimes I crack myself up. The o/p posted they were interested in renting another poster's home in response to that person's post that began with the admonition that meth is a serious problem in Ajo, and many normal-looking homes are contaminated by meth cooking. It just tickled my funny bone that the o/p seemed to ignore that and leap on the impending rental opportunity. So I posted the poster's meth comment and the o/p's eager inquiry. It seemed ironic. Never mind...nothing to see here...move along...

Default Looking for rental

We will be moving to Ajo in the next few weeks. We need to find a small house, 1-2 bdrm. in a decent part of town. If any one knows of a place coming available, we would very much appreciate it. Thanx..the 2 C's.

I just did a search for rentals in Ajo, and nothing. Amazing.

So, here is the Ajo Chamber of Commerce phone number: (520) 387-7742 and the website: Ajo Chamber of Commerce

If all else fails, try them. They should be able to help you find a list of houses.
