Most of the home plan sites online have a 'Craftsman' category. Some of them actually look 'right', but not all. I expect any reputable builder could use any plan you come up with.
In the Gruene area of New Braunfels, there's a neighborhood(s) surrounding the medical area that are mostly Craftsman garden homes. Hanz Drive off Gruene Rd, Cotton Blvd area. Beautiful... and priced accordingly. As in
There definitely are "contemporary" Craftsman architects. It's a popular style. It will cost you, though, because of the typical emphasis on woodwork, built-ins, nice floors even with a parquet element in the living and dining rooms, if you opt for that.
So much residential architecture today is designed to give the appearance of opulence superficially: extra-high ceilings (impossible to heat those rooms in winter), walls of windows (ditto), etc., glitter sprayed onto ceiling, but the quality and good design are lacking. The big barn effect doesn't feel homey to me.
If you find a builder to work with (Google is your friend. Also consider asking a RE agent if they know of any contemp. Craftsmans anywhere in your area. You might be able to look up the property and find out who built it), let us know, and perhaps even give us some pics when the oevre is complete. By then you'll probably be exhausted, though. I hope the project works out for you.
Are there any communities or home builders that are building new homes in the Craftsman style?
Most modern house look the same to me. Giant master suites, open floor plans and boring exteriors.
I have long wished there were builders using old arts and crafts home blueprints.
Especially in Texas.
If you’re referring to the typical “Cali Bungalow” style- there are plenty of plans that have the features of the “Bungalow”. The difference between today’s plans and those of the early 1900’s-1930’s is sq/Ft; and “modern day” features! Plus a lot of code changes through the last 100yrs.
I believe just about any builder can build you one of those modern versions of a Cali Bungalow- it just requires a good set of plans, a good pool of contractors, and attention to detail!
I built a few homes that had the Cali Bungalow look- but were totally “today” on the inside- wasn’t really a fan! But I build what sells- and they went fast!

Over in Cibolo, on Cibolo Valley drive is I think they call it Charleston Place/ The houses are built like Craftsman Bungalows, not sure on how much they cost. Cibolo is east of San Antonio. Over near Sippel Elementary, also in Cibolo they have some homes that are in the Craftsman stlye, but not sure what that area is called. Or you can buy an old one, and have it renovated with some modern updates, but keep most of the original features.

I was pleased to see one of the homes our kid's designed and built during Jr Hi on Zillow last year. Ironically, a friend of ours bought it, and we attended their house warming party. People were pretty impressed with all the interior woodwork and built-in cubbies, custom railings and cornice. (Swiss chalet style). Of course I didn't mention our kids designed and built it at age 12-14.
We are currently working on designs for (2) rural view homes we plan to build to add to the (6) we already have in the Hill Country. They are very non-texan style, so a local builder would never touch it. We'll build them ourselves. But we have a custom builder friend in Ingram who does a huge range of projects, so he will be a resource if we run into any barriers. (Such as old age) going rate is $250/sf. We'll complete our custom home with lots of interior native wood and colored stone from OK for under $80/sf. Our costs for the building acreages were $16k and $22k, so we'll be able to rake in $400k in tax free gains in 24 months. Why waste your time at a job? Building your own custom residence is the current cash cow. (Since 1996). Neighbor has done it 9x. Subs are getting easier to find, so save up a little cash, and go have some fun designing and building your own house.
