An aerial view of Cocotal Golf & Country Club in Bávaro, Dominican Republic. Homes here are owned mostly by foreigners from the USA/Canada, Puerto Rico, Cuba (in reality they tend to be Cubans from Florida), and several countries in Europe. It was developed by Meliá, a Spanish company, as it has the only golf course in the Americas designed by the Spaniard Pepe Gancedo.

Views of the several floors at Acropolis Center in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

When this place open in the early 2000's, it impressed the locals to such levels everybody was talking about it. Until then a shopping center never had such a daring look, in this case seems like an upside down boat. Dominican shopping centers had a more boxy no frills look. I don't rememver the architect though he was an American and in fact, the entire thing was designed in the USA. While Dominican shopping centers of the malls type have been around since the 1980's when Plaza Central open (the first strip mall is Plaza Naco which open in the 1960's or 1970's, based on news articles I've seen of its inauguration this was a big deal, lol.)

Can move around the image and move to the next image by tapping the screen in the direction you want to go.

The Colchones Yaque store in Santiago, Dominican Republic. All their mattresses are made by them in a factory lso in Santiago. So basically, this a Dominican company through and through.

Colchones Yaque, Santiago (they manufacture all their mattresses in a factory also in Santiago)

I don't think the following requires its own thread, so I post it here.

Yesterday June 16, 2022 the first ever jobs fair in Metaverse in the Dominican Republic (Metaempleo ITLA 2022) was celebrated at the Instituto Tecnológico de Las Américas (ITLA). The reason this was celebrated here is that it was entirely created and designed by students at ITLA. Their efforts took over 1,200 hours (30 weeks assuming 40 hours per week. For comparison, the typical year has about 52 weeks.)

"The Dominican Republic will not fall behind in technology and we will continue to support these types of programs." - Luis Abinader, president of the Dominican Republic in his speech at the Metaempleo ITLA 2022 event.

The entire event and source of the printscreens. Unfortunately, this is only in Spanish.

https://WWW.youtube.com/watch?v=5b2OFLQtueI

The following are a few printscreens shown in the video. from the event (1) and actual footage taken at ITLA while the students were working to develop this.

These are from the event at the auditorium at ITLA.

Omar Méndez, director of ITLA.

Luis Abinader, president of the Dominican Republic.

Actual footage taken at ITLA when the students, all of humble background studying there because the Dominican government made it possible by creating the ITLA, were working on the project.

Quintas de Pontezuela is a gated community in Santiago, DR. These drone views is probably the only way anyone that doesn't live there or is friends with someone that lives there can "access" the neighborhood. lol

A nice virtual tour of Cheddy García’s house in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She is a well known comedian and actress (only in Dominican movies.) I find her house so nicely furnished, that despite it’s overfurnished it still looks good! I can actually see myself living there (well, getting rid of the pink color in many places, lol.)

She originates from a poor/lower middle class neighborhood call La Puya, which in Brazil they call these types of neighborhoods “favelas.” She was not born into a well-to-do family and had many economic issues when she started her career in the Dominican media. After hard work and dedication for years, she has been able to move forward in her life and all in the DR. She definitely deserves this and more.

In addition, she was one of the first Dominican women to support the “natural hair movement” and a philosophy of hers since very young is that there is nothing wrong in acknowledging and embracing the African side too. One of the ways she supported that, in addition to actually saying it, was wearing her hair as an afro. Her daughter Chelsy was brought up with those values too and she has grown a big afro too.

The video was uploaded yesterday, but it’s only in Spanish.
