Morning all, we're in the market for a used car for commuting to work. I'm looking at several dealerships between Anchorage and the Valley and am hoping for some thoughts from any of you who may have purchased cars from any of them like Affordable Used Cars, Magnum Motors, Freedom, etc... Or have you stuck with the larger dealers like Lithia, Kendall, etc...?

I had several less-than-optimal experiences with used car lots in Colorado 2014-15 before we moved, so will freely admit to being gun-shy about them. Any thoughts- good or bad- would be welcome.

Thanks in advance...

I had bought a car truck from Affordable Used cars(years ago) and they weren't bad but really there no infrastructure so to speak, warranty was your normal used car one(basically worthless). Definitely no pressure there and you can search the inventory online. I have also bought a few cars(new and used) from Kendall Toyota had have had great experiences with them. Their service center seemed liked it was going down hill but seems to be back on track. You also can search their site for real inventory and actually facilitate the deal over the net without walking in until you need to sign the papers.

Thanks for that feedback- I should clarify that I have had good experiences buying used from bigger dealers- such as a Chevy dealer in Northern Colorado- I bought a good used truck from them- only problem was that it took my family only 4 years to outgrow it. I do like to be able to view the inventory before actually going somewhere.

It's really the small, independent lots that I have had sketchy experiences with. I get what you mean about the warranty as well...

I've used Vito's on 5th Ave, and Anchorage Used Cars off of Dimond and have nothing bad to say about them.

If he was still alive, you could "go see Cal". Cal Worthington Ford. Southern Cal auto dealer, expanding into Western Washington and Anchorage in the 70's and 80's. An amazing marketer with his memorable commercials... "Cal Worthington and his dog Spot!" His dealership on Gamble is now Kendall Ford. FWIT, I bought a Honda from Kendall years ago in Oregon and was pleased with the experience.
