When I read that photographs of the PAPs are involved, I began to wonder - do they match you physically - i.e. hair and eye color etc?

The costs are nominal through the foster system. Out of pocket should be very little and many of the expenses are reimbursed. That's why I say the tradeoff for international is the cost. But doesn't seem so high given the factors of dealing with the foster system.

However, getting matched and selected with a child that you deem compatible with your family seems to be more the issue.

Legally, physical appearance is not supposed to play a role in the matching process.

Sheena, the cost for adoption from foster care is usually extremely low or non-existent. The home study is "free." Often, the legal proceedings are "free" as well. You also get paid a stipend until adoption, and in some states that stipend continues after adoption until the age of 18.

You would need to ask the agency about this. An agency will have you fill out paperwork, interview you and be doing a background check. They look very hard at everything and it is crucial to be honest. You might look for information for your specific state on line.

Hi. im reading these posts and find them so interesting. My husband and I just started the process to adopt internationally and my husband grew up in Ukraine. We are older parents but hope to adopt a child not older than 5 because that is how old our daughter is. Do u have any recommendations for agencies or facilitators? Thank you!
