Vallejo Naval & Historical Museum


The Vallejo Naval & Historical Museum both preserves and exhibits the diverse and magnificent history of the City of Vallejo and the former U.S. Naval Shipyard at Mare Island. The museum is located in Vallejo, California's historic Old City Hall and features five galleries devoted to community and U.S. Navy history. The museum is situated at 734 Marin Street, Vallejo, California and is open for operation Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 4:00 pm. The research library hours are open by appointment only. The admittance price is reasonable and children under the age of 12 are free.

The museum also sponsors educational and cultural programs that include group tours, concerts and recitals in the Heritage Chamber, lectures, audio-visual presentations, and others special events for the benefit of the community of Vallejo. The Museum occupies over 25,000 square feet and has exhibits that are maintained in five galleries and include selections from the permanent collection of the Museum, local private collections, traveling exhibitions, and borrowed artifacts from the extensive collection at Mare Island. A working submarine periscope is installed though the roof and gives an excellent view of the City and Mare Island. Visitors enjoy the changing exhibits and some of the displays that remain the same year after year.
