Sunset Strip

Sunset Strip is part of Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. In fact Sunset Strip was the name given to a mile and a half of Sunset Boulevard, which runs through West Hollywood. The eastern border is at Harper Avenue in Hollywood and the western border is Beverly Hills at Sierra Drive.

Sunset Strip is the most well known section of Sunset Boulevard due to the restaurants, boutiques, rock clubs, and nightclubs which run along the street. Several trademark buildings and colorful billboards can be found along the route. Many rock stars, entertainers, and movie stars tend to hang out on Sunset Strip.

Sunset Strip started off as a wild section of the city with nightclubs, casinos, and movies. During Prohibition a number of places on Sunset Strip served liquor in the backrooms. By the 1930s and 1940s many restaurants became popular among the rich and famous. In fact, power brokers were also found in legendary clubs like Trocadero, Ciro's, and Mocambo. Mickey Cohen, a gangster, ran a few of the nightclubs and restaurants.

Today, Sunset Strip is still for entertainment, with plenty of expensive hotels, alternative music locales, and celebrities walking around the strip.
