Santa Monica Museum of Art

Like many museums of Art, Santa Monica Museum of Art educates, exhibits, and preserves art for a variety of cultures and visitors. Their art is local, national, and international in origins depicting a variety of nationalities. The SMMoA was founded in 1984. Abby Sher along with Thomas Rhoads built the art museum into its current state with its numerous collections and exhibits. In 1998, the museum gained a new location on Bergamot Station in order to improve on its exhibits and main gallery.

Many of the pieces on display are meant to show the history of contemporary art and culture. Those the artists show cased are from all walks of life and experiences. Current exhibits for 2010 include Combustione Alberto Burri and America, and Project Room Libro Italian Artists' Books. The exhibits tend to change every three to four months. The museum of art also offers a variety of programs such as youth and family outreach programs. These programs allow families and children to learn about art, even follow their dreams of being artists. Adult programs and multimedia options are also available. There is a shop onsite offering memorabilia and souvenirs. It is also possible to buy some of the artwork on exhibit.
