Museum of Art and History


It is the mission of the Museum of Art and History in Santa Cruz, California to offer greater understanding of art, as well as the history of Santa Cruz. They do this with exhibitions, programs, and collections. The museum was designed to benefit visitors and residents of the county.

The museum is located at 705 Front Street. They are open Tuesdays through Sundays 11am to 5pm, and closed Mondays. The first Friday of every month the hours are extended to 9pm. Admission fees are $5 for general, $3 for adult students, $2 for children 12 to 17.

The latest permanent exhibits are art and 3-D history objects. Some include Land of Our Soul by Sherry Karver, San Lorenzo Lumber CO, Polychrome Ceramic by Bo Kvenlid, and Faneuf's Plumbing. Archives include photos, artifacts, and other ephemera objects. For example, Seabright Avenue is a photograph of a local street. There are also a couple of postcards with the Capitola by the Sea.

Current exhibits include Its in the Pulp, Machines of Memory, and Don't Forget to Write. These exhibits travel around to other museums, so they will not be at Santa Cruz's Museum for long, only until November 2010.
