L.H. Selman Ltd. Glass Gallery

The L.H. Selman Ltd Glass Gallery, an antique and contemporary glass paper weight museum, previously located at 123 Locust Street, Santa Cruz, CA, relocated to Chicago, IL in 2009.

The art of paperweights began in France around the year 1845. In 1851 during London's Great Exhibition, paperweights gained popularity, triggering companies to compete to produce the most intricately designed paperweights. The fashion lost popularity after 25 years, but regained following in the 1950's, when a collector, Paul Jokelson asked the manufacturers to revive the trend.

The comprehensive museum of paperweights in Chicago holds the largest antique and contemporary collection of glass paperweights in the country. The new gallery is located at 410 S Michigan Ave Ste. #207, Chicago, IL. It is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday by appointment only.

The former location of the L.H. Selman Ltd Glass Gallery is one block west of the Cooper Street Plaza Shopping Center and just across the Santa Cruz River from San Lorenzo Park. The gallery is located south of the San Jose International Airport about 45 minutes by car and is within walking distance of the Santa Cruz Mission State Historic Park and the Perfumer's Apprentice and just under a mile away from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
