Fourth Street

Fourth Street, Berkley, CA

In downtown Berkley, California there is a main shopping district called Fourth Street. It is named after the street these shops can be found on. It is also historical to the Bay Area. Visitors come to the shops on 4th street not to buy items they need, but items they want. To get to Fourth Street one must take Highway 80 to the main thoroughfare of University Avenue. Many of the shops are eclectic in their offerings. In fact, you will not find department store shops along the street. Instead, each shop is one of a kind with clothing styles like Mall D'ordinaire, Dreary but Noble, and Simply Fourth Street. All items at these places are original and quite expensive.

Fourth Street did not begin as a posh place for shoppers. Instead it was an industrial area of Berkley with struggling businesses and high crime. In the past you may have been missing your wallet and cash after a walk along the streets. Eventually in the 1970s the area was revamped to make it the sophisticated open air mall seen today. Artist galleries, jewelry stores, clothing, one of a kind decorations, and plenty of upscale restaurants line the street.
