1000 Steps Beach

With seven miles of coastline, Laguna Beach has some of the most scenic beaches and coves in Southern California, plus the greatest number of localized beaches of any city in the state. Among these are many sandy crescents backed by high bluffs that can make access difficult and the return trip a test of one's climbing abilities. For that reason, paved ramps and stairs with railings have been added at many of the more popular beaches.

The beach known as 1000 Steps Beach is located between 9th and 10th streets. It is one of many locations in what is known as the South Laguna Beach area, neighboring Bluebird Canyon, Pearl Street, Wood's Cove, Moss Point, Rockledge, Victoria Beach, and Treasure Island. However, it would be very hard to reach this spot if not for the long, steep stairway that has been installed.

There are not actually 1,000 steps leading up and down the slope more like 230 in total but they can certainly feel like a thousand after a day in the sun and surf. Facilities here include sand volleyball courts with nets, a body surfing zone, and a surfboarding area. There are restrooms and a shower, too, and the beach is patrolled from sunrise to sunset by the City of Laguna Beach Lifeguard Services.
