Remarks: NOT A STRIKE BUT HAD EFFECT ON FLT. HUNDREDS OF BIRDS ON THE GRND THAT WE NOTICED ON SHORT FINAL. WE WERE CONCERNED THAT THEY WOULD BE INGESTED SO WE ABORTED THE APRCH AND ENTERED THE TRAFFIC PATTERN. BIRDS HAD VACATED THE RWY, TWY AND RAMP AREA BY THE TIME WE RETURNED FOR A SECOND APRCH. THERE IS A LANDFILL NE OF ARPT WHICH MAY CONTRIBUTE TO BIRD ACTIVITY. WE HAVE BEEN UTILIZING THIS ARPT FOR YEARS AND HAVE NEVER SEEN THE BIRDS POSE SUCH A THREAT.
