Nightlife - West Palm Beach, Florida

1. Respectable Street

City: West Palm Beach, FL
Category: Nightlife
Telephone: (561) 832-9999
Address: 518 Clematis St.

Description: Although it’s in West Palm Beach, which is quite a trek, Respectable Street has been luring some of the music industry’s most elusive recording artists to South Florida for over 20 years so it’s worth taking a look at their website to see if any awesome shows are coming up. Nineties alt giants like Red Hot Chili Peppers, They Might Be Giants, and Soul Asylum have all played shows here as have more recent, Pitchfork-approved acts like Sleigh Bells and Surfer Blood. The space’s funky, psychedelic decor creates the perfect ambiance for a rock concert.

The place doesn’t try to be anything but exactly what it is—a great place to hear rock music in a funky atmosphere in the heart of downtown West Palm. There’s a strict dress code here, mostly directed at sloppy or urban dress. Tues is Ladies’ Night, and there are special events such as the White Trash Bash. Drinks made with Bacardi Rum are the specialty of the house. And the DJs are great. Cover charge. Closed Sun, Mon, Wed.

Category: Nightlife
Telephone: (561) 655-2332
Address: 313 Clematis St.

Description: The Liquid Room is ultra-hip and ultra-chic, and it’s a great place to boogie in downtown West Palm. The mode of attire is dress-to-impress. But it’s nonetheless a friendly crowd that’s here to mingle and dance. The dance floor can get crowded but be sure to take a look at the people with whom you’re rubbing elbows. It could be someone like Madonna or Rod Stewart, two of the many celebrities who stop by when they’re in town. (Stewart is actually something of a local; he has a home in Palm Beach County.) The music varies from house and pop to techno and hip hop. If you’re in the mood to splurge (or if you happen to be one of those celebrities), there’s an incredible VIP room. Cover charge.

It’s become a West Palm Beach landmark for its creative bands and its singular focus on progressive music. Among these types of music are indie, electro, punk, and alternative. Events here are just as unique as the music. For example, there’s the Anti-Folk Freakout, the Annual Cheesy 80s Prom, anniversary parties for the club.
