Description: With continuous performances offered daily, Theater of the Sea is the Florida Keys’ showiest marine entertainment facility. The natural saltwater lagoons, created by excavations for Flagler’s railroad, are home to popular marine creatures like dolphins, stingrays, sharks, and sea turtles. Special programs are offered for an additional fee, which includes park and show admission. The Trainer-­for-­a-Day program allows you to assist the trainers in feeding and caring for the dolphins and sea lions. The Swim with the Stingrays program includes 15 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes in the water snorkeling with the stingrays, sea turtles, and other marine life. Swim with the Dolphins and Swim with the Sea Lions programs are also offered.

Description: This historic 8-acre property is now a passive park. The area provides a natural outdoor recreation and education setting, including nature trails, a wildlife observation platform, and a launch with dockage for kayaks and canoes to paddle across Florida Bay. A historic cottage doubles as an interpretive center as well as an amenity for the adjacent Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail.

Description: Honoring the hundreds of residents and railroad workers in Islamorada who lost their lives in the Labor Day hurricane of 1935, this monument depicts the fury of nature’s elements with a bas-­relief of high seas and wind-­battered palm trees. Carved out of local coral limestone, the Hurricane Monument may be freely viewed just off the Overseas Highway.

Description: Feeding the tarpon at Robbie’s Marina is something that is not to be missed. You can purchase a cup of baitfish, the tarpon’s favorite snack, at the marina. Visitors pay just $1 for dock access and $3 for a pail of baitfish to hand-­feed the giant tarpon, the popular Keys fish that hang around on an almost year-­round basis. Robbie’s also offers small powerboats and kayaks for rent, and a party fishing boat on which you can go reef fishing off Islamorada.

Description: The infamous Betsy the Lobster stands to greet shoppers at the entrance to this artist colony. At 30 feet tall and 40 feet in length, she is a showstopper! The Rain Barrel Village of Artists and Craftspeople is a garden complex of creativity. The 2,000-square-­foot mixed-­media gallery features an array of paintings, sculptures, woodwork, and decorative glass. You’ll find an eclectic assortment of art and craft creations, including whimsical ceramics and an expansive wind chime collection.
