For demographic purposes, Fort Lauderdale and Miami are considered one market. And—since they’re only about 25 miles apart—they’re considered one TV and radio market as well. Whereas West Palm Beach is considered a separate media market, Fort Lauderdale and Miami are one. So TV and radio stations are pretty much always identified as “Miami/Fort Lauderdale.”
Newspapers, however, are a different story. Pretty much everyone in Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County reads the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, while the Miami–Dade County paper is the Miami Herald.
