As a Fort Mill resident, the Charlotte airport is abusing the airspace over Fort Mill and York county and needs to change flight patterns to disperse noise instead of concentrating it over our homes and businesses. I have spoken with the "noise abatement specialist" at the CLT airport and he mentioned they are trying to work with the FAA to increase approach altitudes. Our house is directly by a waypoint for approaching flights and the specialist actually confirmed that flights were well below the recommended altitude for that waypoint, which is 4K ft. So there is clear proof that flights are lower than they should be.
How would you suggest the FAA safely align aircraft to approach the runways when they are in an arrivals configuration from the south? The northern portion of Fort Mill is directly south of the runways with aircraft in a straight line. Do you suggest the airplanes swoop in and make a tight turn over Steele Creek or Renaissance Park while in approach rather than line up in a straight line?
Given CLT has been a hub for years and the entire metro gets noise (Quail Hollow, Steele Creek, Ballantyne, South Park, Gastonia, Mount Holly, Lake Norman, Mountain Island Lake, et...), I'm wondering if your realtor didn't tell you before you bought your house about noise? Depending on the winds, the airport can be in different configurations. Airplanes take off into the wind.
