Just found out that Punta Cana gets over 8 million visitors per year where Santo Domingo doesn't even get 5 million.

Do you even know the name of the capital of Australia? Canberra is very much down the list of places visited by all but a few federal politicians.

That should be true of the United States. Several places are more visited than Washington DC here. New York, Los Angeles, Miami and San Francisco absolutely must be more visited than DC. We should also consider our neighbors up north, Ottawa is far from the most visited city in Canada. Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver all must see more visitors than the capital.

Brazil's capital city is somewhat like the example of Australia. Not many tourists go to Brazil specifically to visit Brasilia, as most go to Rio, Sao Paulo, Iguacu Falls, Florianopolis etc.

I suspect that Montreal, Toronto, Quebec and Vancouver get more tourists than Ottawa.

True. I've been to Australia three times and never visited Canberra. Most travel guides make it sound unappealing and worth a miss. If you ask the average person where 'Canberra' is, they probably have never heard of it, much less know it's the capital of Australia.

Belmopan, Belize. I only stopped there on a bus ride to another city. Nothing to see. It's only a hub for government and business. If you're planning a trip to Belize and want to spend a few days in the "capital city", bring some books.

Rabat Moroocco, might be another one, it seems to way overshowed by Marakesh and Fez, also i have no doubt Ankara is no where near as popular as Istanbul.

Columbia. Medellín and Cartagena are the most visited by far.
