I had a wonderful experience.... I bought a very used car titled in IL from a small car dealer (kind of a private guy with a license) in Wisconsin. The guy wrote his signature on the back of his Illinois title and gave it to me. When I tried to register the car in Wisconsin, I got it denied with the explanation that the guy had to register the car in WI before selling it in WI.... I tried to find the guy, but he moved out to Missouri (well, he was back and forth all the time...) - so he definitely was not going to do anything! (Thank God, he was an honest guy and the car was his and not stolen or anything).
So my wife was driving for about 2 years on an untitled and unregistered car with fake California plates... But then I decided to sell the car... There was no way I could sell it without a title. I called DMV and asked what to do, and after much inquiring someone suggested to buy a title bond. I wish I knew it sooner, but how many people know about this little thing?
