Last weekenf I had Barnabys, in Niles.

Barnaby's peaked in the late 1970s/early 1980s when they had dozens of locations from South Bend to Madison, and even one in Florida. Then the owners decided to retire and sold off their locations one-by-one. Some of the new owners were better at running them than others, and some sold out when the real estate became more valuable than the business itself.

By 2020 they were left with a core of about 10 locations, and a handful of those went under during the COVID closures. So now they're down to 6 or 7. It's hard to keep track since they're individually owned and related by name/reputation only, so they all have separate web pages and marketing strategies and all that.

Bitey, thank you.

Not sure why Wisconsin sold out. But I DO like them, and a trip to Northfield or Niles is worth it.

I did a trip to Milwaukee with my wife a couple of months ago, trying to find the best pizza there.

This time we tried Lisa's on Oakland, Art Bar, and Balistreri's. The previous trip was Filippo's, Transfer, Pizza Man, and Zafiro's.

Man, they're all pretty good. It's hard to feel like you can really get a side to side comparison when spread across so much time. Coming from California (where they put chicken on "pizza"), I just think there is a lot of really good pizza in Milwaukee, let alone WI as a whole.

My favorites are probably Pizza Man and Zafiro's. Least favorite, although still good, is probably Transfer pizza. We'll have to do more research.

RDNZL, it sounds like you and your wife hit up A LOT of places on your trip!

I have heard good things about Filippo's, but never tried it.

I've been to Pizza Man a couple of times in my life.

And I AM a fan of Balistreris and Zaffiros!

I'm still going with Salvatore's Tomato Pies as my answer, many Dane County locations.
